Gone Phishing…

Bunker companies receive hundreds of emails daily. Price alerts are dropping in as global regions open for business. There are the headlines from media companies alongside operational updates and hopefully, new enquiries! Those on duty rifle through these, often quickly opening and scanning or filing for future reference. But where are the controls? Is there a process to stop and react when an email stands-out as different? Do busy people have time to do the sense-test? Often, not. Before you know it, a scam email is opened and the phisher has got a catch on their line.

The MFA is addressing the serious and very realistic problem for bunker companies to be attacked through cyber-crime. As hacktivists make their way down the supply-chain, the weaker and less prepared become the hunted. In the latest Podcast, Anthony Mollet of the MFA speaks to Mark Sutcliffe from The Marine Safety & Security Alliance and Andre Turville of ARX Alliance to consider basic steps companies can put in place to protect themselves, train staff and review procedures as a matter of routine.

In order to do so, we want to hear from our members about experiences they may have endured. Please reach out to Anthony at info@marinefuelsalliance.com or call to discuss with him +44 7795 415341.

We will ensure to keep your information or experience confidential. But we are very keen to engage with the membership and listen to what examples they may have had and how they went about corrective actions as a consequence.

Along with The Marine Safety & Security Alliance and ARX Alliance, we will produce a guideline and basic steps for MFA members to write and follow a procedure. As part of this development, we would like your input and stories. The net is being cast wider. We will work with you to provide professional support.
