Not a common word I use, but like buses in London, suddenly two came at once! In the week where the MFA held the first meeting of the Action Group to review new Digital Business Solutions, our guest from HSBC commented that Banks are looking for interoperability of systems, in order for transactional chains to work with maximum efficiency and security. I then find a brilliant piece by Lloyd’s Register, ‘Global Maritime Trends Barometer 2025’, in which they also state A lack of standardisation hampers the interoperability of digital systems throughout maritime supply chains, sustaining inefficiencies in areas including cargo handling, port traffic management, emissions monitoring and reporting, vessel route optimisation, and voyage planning.’

Those companies who have invested in new solutions and ventured to develop systems are certain they will reap the rewards, ultimately. Hearing and reading comments from such prominent business people provides assurance and comfort, that the investment and approach is not only required, but will become essential.

Alternative Fuel markets will demand new ways of trading and transacting. Regulation is driving the bus (ok ship..). First movers have made significant strides, quickly becoming experts in new legislation and the key factors affecting the bunker market transition.

Our next MFA Action Group meeting on this topic will delve deeper to review a cross-section of new online solutions. What do each do? What are their USPs and key features? How are they progressing with sales and marketing? How can we collaborate and create opportunities across platforms? What are the Risk underwriters saying? Well, we are delighted to have the participation of HSBC and Alantra to provide these comments and give the much-needed kick of reassurance and promotion for our combined approaches. If you want to participate, join us here and help create our MFA guide for members.
